SEEMP a mandatory tool from 2013
SEEMP, Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan became a present must. In accordance with IMO rules and regulations (MEPC.1/Circ.683), all existing vessels must have an SEEMP available on board by 2013.
A SEEMP must not be another “paper” but a tool, for ship energy optimisation, therefore becomes an ideal opportunity to cut fuel costs by increasing the energy efficiency of the ship.
An initial energy audit, must be made to pin point energy saving actions, which are proposed in a report with their respective techno economic characterization, which upon decision by the management on the actions to implement, result in a step by step implementation, making possible to foresee the saving and emissions reductions.
What you have to do
The IMO rules and regulations stated on the (MEPC.1/Circ.683) must be implemented throughout the fleets by the beginning 2013. Charterers and other organizations are pushing towards specific recommendations and EEOI will become an indicative Index for existing vessels.
The audit and subsequent implementation of a SEEMP must be carried quickly, efficiently and smoothly, therefore must be carried by specialised marine engineers that ultimately may follow with the if special measurements need to be taken.
Training is also required, to pass the crews the required knowledge and awareness to a successful energy optimisation program.
SEEMP for compliance
